Deciduous shrubby tree or eastern North America with compound leaves that turn brilliant red in fall and dense panicles of greenish yellow flowers followed by crimson acidic berries. Synonyms: Rhus typhina, staghorn sumac, vinegar tree, Virginian sumac.
